Summary (4.5 / 5)
The Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park offers large and beautifully decorated rooms in a convenient location in Sydney with somewhat limited views of Hyde Park depending on the floor.
We booked two nights in a King Hyde Park View Room at a cost of $560.60 + credit card fees. Given that prices at this hotel can often exceed $400 per night, I thought this price was fairly reasonable and paid cash instead of trying to redeem Marriott Bonvoy points. At present, rooms are available at 35,000 points a night and so I would only consider redeeming if the cash rate exceeded $350 per night.
Having just recently stayed at a nearby 3-star hotel in Sydney, we found the checkin process at the Sheraton to be a world apart. The service was friendly and warm and made us feel very welcome. I asked if we could be allocated a room as high up as possible with good park views. The checkin agent said that the room category we booked only goes up to the 10th floor, but she said she would check availability. After a quick search, she confirmed that unfortunately she couldn’t go any higher than level 10 but we would have a park view. As a Marriott Bonvoy Silver member, room upgrades are not a published benefit however there is some leniency in room selection and so I appreciate her trying to find the best room for us.
Having been recently renovated, the rooms at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park include beautiful furniture and furnishings. The inclusion of bedside lighting controls and USB outlets is very appreciated and gives the room a modern vibe. A pod coffee machine and generous tea selection is also included.
The room has ducted air conditioning however I found that even on the lowest setting (of 17 degrees Celsius) it would only provide limited cooling. If staying longer than 2 nights I probably would’ve asked for someone to check it was working correctly.
As you would expect from Sheraton, the King sized bed was extremely comfortable with excellent pillows and sheets. Complementary water was provided beside the bed.
The views from our level 10 room were okay however given the shape of the hotel Hyde Park was only visible by going right up to the window and looking to the left. The views from our room were a lot less impressive than the nearby Pullman Sydney Hyde Park.
Usually my number one consideration when booking hotels and rooms is the view, but thankfully the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park made up for it with the room size and furnishings.
The bathroom included a bath, a large circular mirror with lighting, a separate shower and some ‘le grand bain’ amenities. Overall, the bathroom was incredibly beautiful and the mirror quite amazing!
The hotel offers a pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room located on Level 22. The facilities are attached to the hotel spa but are free to use for hotel guests. The pool is indoors with a glass roof and offers nice views of Hyde Park and out across the bay.
Summary (4.5 / 5)
The Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is a beautiful hotel with larger than usual rooms and beautiful furnishings. In my opinion it is nicer than other nearby offerings however the views from most rooms aren’t that spectacular. Overall, I had a really enjoyable 2 night stay and would definitely return if the price was reasonable again.
